CIC Victoria: Zero-Hour – The War in Ukraine

February 23 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

This talk, Zero-Hour – The War in Ukraine, comes the day before Russia’s second invasion of Ukraine in February last year.  And while the war in Ukraine may have seemed far away from Canada back then, we know now that its implications have been increasingly felt in this country and across the globe.  For the people of Ukraine, the war has brought immeasurable suffering but also demonstrated the unwavering fighting spirit of its people.  For Russia, the war has been a strategic disaster, diminishing the country’s world standing while placing Putin’s future in doubt if he fails to achieve his objectives.
Join us as Dr. Chris Kilford, discusses the war one-year on and what might come next.  His talk comes on the heels of his visit to Canada’s troops deployed with the NATO mission in Latvia and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs last summer to discuss the war in Ukraine, his speaking across Canada about the war and recently hosting the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada via a national webinar on the day many NATO countries approved sending tanks to Ukraine.  Chris holds a PhD in history from Queen’s University and is a Fellow with the Queen’s Centre for International and Defence Policy, a Sessional Instructor at the Canadian Forces College, and an Associate Faculty member with Royal Roads University.  He enjoyed a 36-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces as a senior army officer and was Canada’s Defence Attache to Turkiye from 2011-2014.
