As Canada’s most easterly city – and a growing hub for ocean science, energy, defence, technology, and global research — St. John’s has a natural stake in international affairs. The region is home to Memorial University, the Marine Institute, an expanding innovation sector, and a community deeply connected to the North Atlantic, the Arctic, and global fisheries. From geopolitics to climate security to the future of cognitive and information resilience, our members take these issues personally because they shape our province’s future.

CIC St. John’s brings together diplomats, scholars, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and engaged citizens for conversations that cut through the noise. We host speaker events, panels, and pub nights, and regularly collaborate with Memorial University, the Marine Institute, and local partners to connect global expertise with local insight.

A core part of our mission is supporting students and young professionals. We are building new outreach programs, mentorship opportunities, and professional-development events that link emerging leaders with people who have worked in international diplomacy, national security, development, business, and global governance. Our aim is simple: help the next generation from Newfoundland and Labrador step confidently into the world.
