Summary

The present crisis in relations between Israelis and Palestinians is one of the most profound in the history of their shared dispute, originating in the 19th century. Today that confrontation is manifest in a particularly virulent and intractable form; but despite those very harsh realities, it is the moral responsibility of leaders on both sides, battered and bruised as they are, to find a way out.
