Get Involved
The founders of the predecessor to the Canadian International Council (CIC), the Canadian Institute of International Affairs (CIIA,) already knew in 1928 that an effective foreign policy in a democracy required active engagement by an informed public. In our interconnected world, this has never been more accurate. States no longer have a monopoly on the international affairs field: businesses, civil society groups and even individual citizens with access to technology can influence world events. Not only can organizations like the CIC help Canadians cut through the noise to better understand the world, but they can also provide a critical connector between non-state groups, the general citizenry and government on foreign policy issues. Today’s global challenges are too important to leave in the hands of government alone. At the core of the CIC’s mandate is a conviction that citizen engagement is the foundation for a successful foreign policy. There are many ways to get involved with the CIC.
Become an Individual Member
When you become a member of the CIC you help support a national network of globally minded individuals committed to promoting, improving and advancing Canadian foreign policy. Please see our members’ page for more information on the benefits of membership and how you can join.
Volunteer
Even if you are not a member, you can volunteer your time to support the work of the CIC, either with one of our 15 branches or the national office in Toronto. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of the organization, learn about international affairs issues and gain valuable experience.
