Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. Please consult our events calendar for a listing of CIC-organized and sponsored events.

If you have an idea for a CIC event, please contact us at info@thecic.org.

CIC Saskatoon: Saskatoon’s Global Cafe presents: award-winning documentary “Sisters for Sale”

November 27, 2024 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST

Take a break from shoveling snow and join the Global Café community for  a screening of the multi-award-winning documentary ‘Sisters for Sale’, hosted at 4 pm in the legendary Neatby-Timlin Theatre (Room 241 Arts Building, University of Saskatchewan).

‘Sisters for Sale’ was based on a long-standing friendship between its director Ben Randall and the film’s principal subjects, May, Pang, and Vu. With the documentary, Ben has worked to give a voice to a group of young women who don’t otherwise have a platform to share their stories.

The film tells an incredible true story of hope, courage, and freedom. Young Hmong women on the border between Vietnam and China find themselves caught between a violent custom and a vicious criminal underworld. Investigating the mysterious disappearances of his local friends, an Australian filmmaker uncovers a human trafficking crisis and sparks an incredible series of events…

After the movie, join in on the discussion with the film’s creators, brought into the room by Zoom. If you can’t attend in person, you too can connect by Zoom, so you won’t miss out on the movie or the discussion. CIC is proud to partner with the Department of Political Studies to bring this to you.
