Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. YPFP Consulate Series: Bilateral Brazil

Event Description

Young Professionals in Foreign Policy-Toronto invites its members and non-members to its fifth Consulate Series event, Bilateral Brazil. The event will be an interactive discussion session on Brazilian foreign policy with Brazilian Deputy Consul General Mr. Ademar Seabra da Cruz.

This consulate event with Deputy Consul General Ademar Seabra da Cruz is a great opportunity to learn about Brazilian foreign policy and current challenges, as well Brazil’s relationship with Canada. The Deputy Consul General will also provide advice on diplomatic career pursuits for the audience. The roundtable discussion will be a unique learning experience for those interested in Latin American studies, International Law, Trade, and Global Affairs in general.

We will also be serving some Brazilian refreshments.

Speakers

Mr. Cruz has served at following institutions/departments:

Head of the Science and Technology Division (DCTEC) at the Brazilian Ministry for External Relations (MRE)
Special Advisor to the Brazilian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI)
General Coordinator of Disciplinary Procedures at MRE
Full Professor at the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy (Rio Branco Institute)
Head of the Science and Technology Section at the Brazilian Embassy in London between 1996-2000

Mr. Cruz’s academic background includes a PhD in Social Sciences (University of São Paulo), a MsC in Philosophy of the Social Sciences (London School of Economics) and in Political Science (University of Brasília, Brasil).

Mr. Cruz is also the author of Justiça como Eqüidade (Justice as Fairness), on the political philosophy of John Rawls (Lumen Juris, Rio de Janeiro, 2004), and Diplomacy, Development and National Innovation Systems: a comparative study between Brazil, China and United Kingdom (Brasília, FUNAG, 2011).
