CIC Winnipeg: War Crimes in Ukraine

Dr. Kjell Anderson will outline and explain the types of international crimes we are witnessing in Ukraine, as well as highlighting some proposed options for accountability.
Kjell is criminologist and jurist focused on understanding and responding to mass atrocities. He is the Director of the Master of Human Rights program, as well as an assistant professor of law at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Orysia Kulick will focus on Russian crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians and what that tells us about Russia’s purported aims in Ukraine, highlighting, in particular, gender-based violence, the kidnapping of children, and other acts that have led to indictments of Russian officials in international courts.
Orysia is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba, where she is cross appointed between the Departments of Political Studies and German and Slavic Studies.
