CIC Yukon: The Politics of the Asia-Pacific: Triumphs, Challenges, and Threats

February 9, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am PST

CIC Yukon hosts their first event!  The Zoom book launch of:

The Politics of the Asia-Pacific: Triumphs, Challenges, and Threats

The Asia-Pacific region is characterized not only by unprecedented economic growth, but also as being one of the last bastions of authoritarianism. As such, deep political tensions persist in the region, and many questions remain surrounding the uncertainty of the Asia-Pacific’s geopolitical future.

In The Politics of the Asia-Pacific, senior scholars, former diplomats, and emerging voices introduce readers to the complexities of the colonial history, economics, democratization, authoritarianism, governance, and security within the region. Written by a diverse group of contributors with unique expertise in the region, the book explores the region’s rapid economic growth and shows why an education in global politics for the twenty-first century is incomplete without consideration of this dynamic region.

Our speaker is Dr. Mark Williams, the book editor.  Mark joined the Vancouver Island University faculty in 2013, teaching in both the Political Studies department and the Global Studies department. Prior to his relocation to Nanaimo, British Columbia, he completed a PhD in Political Science (International Relations) at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a MA in Political Science (Comparative Politics) and a BA (Political Science/Environmental Studies) at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.
