Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. Please consult our events calendar for a listing of CIC-organized and sponsored events.

If you have an idea for a CIC event, please contact us at info@thecic.org.

Or virtual via Zoom

The Canadian International Council’s Toronto Branch is delighted to invite you to a hybrid discussion on The Canada-US Relationship in Crisis: Options for Canada, co-hosted with the Circle for Democratic Solidarity. This event will take place at the Center for Social Innovation at 720 Bathurst Street in Toronto, with a virtual option to attend via Zoom, as well.

The many abuses of Donald Trump’s first term in office led many to believe a second term would be disastrous for liberal democracy in the US and for democracies around the world. In his statements in the lead up to his second term, the returning President appears determined to confirm the worst fears.

Canadians approach Inauguration Day with trepidation. How will we protect our interests when our most important partner views Canada as a threat? How can we preserve our democratic system of government as the US embraces a very different set of values? How will we protect our economy now that the era of free trade has all but ended?

Against this backdrop, on the day after the US presidential inauguration, CIC Toronto and the Circle for Democratic Solidarity have invited leading figures in each of the major nationwide federal parties to present their views on the crisis in Canada-US relations. We begin with Heather McPherson, Foreign Affairs Critic for the NDP.

Tickets for in-person attendees will include two complementary drink tickets.
