March 14 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

The African Study Group (ASG) presents…

14 March 2024, 1:00 pm EST

Carleton University, NPSIA Boardroom, Richcraft Hall 5320 D, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario

Among the other conflicts attracting the world’s attention, the complex nature of the ongoing civil war in Sudan is too often overlooked.  News reports on Sudan tend to focus on the ongoing civil war and its terrible consequences for many of its citizens: deteriorating humanitarian conditions, increasing food insecurity, attacks on civilian infrastructure (including schools and hospitals) and the worsening health situation in the country, the internal displacement of civilians in Sudan’s 18 states and the influx of refugees into Sudan’s neighboring states. The courageous struggle of the Sudanese people and the regional and international prospects and efforts underway to resolve the crisis, the fruit of a long history of conflict and repression in Sudan, however, are often overlooked.

How can peace be restored and humanitarian needs addressed in Sudan?

This Roundtable focuses on key elements that could help restore peace to Sudan, address the humanitarian emergency, and pave the way for a better life for its people.
