CIC Calgary: Pop-Up Policy: Brett Stephenson
July 8 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm EDT
In the true spirit of “Pop-up” Policy as something that “pops up” at the last minute, next week on Monday, July 8th, the Canada West Foundation and the Canadian International Council (Calgary branch) are hosting Brett Stephenson, Greater China Director of the pan-Asia Asia Business Trade Association (ABTA), for an “on-the-ground” Asian perspective and insights on the current Canada-China trade and political conflicts. What’s the view in Asia on China’s trade actions aimed at Canada? How are other countries dealing with China on similar issues? How important are U.S.-China disputes to what is happening, including tensions over technology and I.P.? What are some realistic possibilities for resolution of current issues and longer-term prognosis for the Canada-China relationship? How might current U.S.-China trade tensions shift global supply and production chains?
Brett, a native Calgarian, is the Director – Greater China with the Asia Business Trade Association (ABTA) and Co-Chair for the Policy and Government Relations Committee with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He also worked for the American Chamber of Commerce in China as government affairs and energy co-ordinator. Prior to his time in China, Brett worked for the Canadian Minister of Natural Resources, and other roles in government relations and communications in Canada’s oil and gas sector.
Our Pop-up Policy events are an informal gathering of staff and our CWF friends at our office to hear from guest speakers and talk about interesting policy issues. We hope you’ll join us for a very timely discussion on perspectives from Asia on the China-Canada relationship.
