CIC Nipissing District: Canada, the Once and Future Peacekeeper?

On Monday June 27th, 2016, the Nipissing District Branch of the Canadian International Council (CIC) is pleased to present, “Canada, the Once and Future Peacekeeper?” This presentation will be made by Dr. Walter Dorn, Professor, Canadian Forces College, Toronto. Drawing on his expertise in defence issues, Dr. Dorn will reflect on Canadian peacekeeping in the twentieth and twenty first century.
This talk will be held on Monday June 27th, 2016 from 7 – 9:00 pm at A122 at Nipissing University. This event is free to CIC Members, members of the general public and students. It is open to all. Please register with the online registration system before June 27th, 2016. Seating is limited.
Dr. Walter Dorn is Professor of Defence Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) and the Canadian Forces College (CFC). At the CFC, he serves as Chair of the Master of Defence Studies (MDS) programme and the Deputy Director for Graduate Studies. He previously was Chair of the Department of Security and International Affairs, and Deputy Director for Outreach and Community Development. He was also Chair (2008–2013) of Canadian Pugwash, an organization of physical, life and social scientists seeking to reduce the threats to global security.
At the Canadian Forces College he teaches officers of rank Major to Brigadier-General from Canada and over 20 other countries in the areas of arms control, Canadian foreign/defence policy, peace operations and international security.
He has written several books, including Keeping Watch: Monitoring, Technology, and Innovation in UN Peace Operations, and most recently edited the volume, Air Power in UN Operations: Wings for Peace. He is hoping to “someday soon” complete a book on a broader theme, possibly titled “The Emerging Global Watch: UN Monitoring for International Peace and Human Security.” It will analyse the expansion of the monitoring of conflicts, ceasefires, elections, human rights, sanctions, enforcement and global security generally.
