Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. Please consult our events calendar for a listing of CIC-organized and sponsored events.

If you have an idea for a CIC event, please contact us at info@thecic.org.

National Office: Defending the Democratic Sphere in the Age of AI [Virtual Event]

August 11 @ 5:30 pm - 7:45 pm EDT

As artificial intelligence reshapes how information is created, shared and understood, Canada faces a growing democratic challenge: how can it protect trusted information environments from AI-driven manipulation, misinformation and foreign interference while preserving open public debate?

Join the Canadian International Council and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Canada for a hybrid roundtable discussion on information integrity, artificial intelligence and democratic resilience. The discussion will feature Rignam Wangkhang, AI Advisor at CBC News and co-founder of the Canadian AI Journalism Network, and Madeleine Case, Policy and Strategic Initiatives Lead at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Democratic Engagement Exchange and Youth Fellow with McGill’s Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy.

Together with participants, they will examine how generative AI, synthetic media and algorithmically amplified content are changing public discourse, and what Canada can do to strengthen resilience, community trust and democratic engagement. Insights from the discussion will contribute to a national survey and synthesis report on AI governance to be published in January 2027.
