COVID-19 has accentuated global interconnectedness as well as highlights the importance of international development to combat global challenges, both now and in the future. Canada is a leader in international development assistance. In this new environment, what does the future hold for international development and how can young professionals contribute?
The Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, is joining the Canadian International Council Young Professionals Network as she provides her insights on Canada’s efforts in providing humanitarian assistance around the world, the implementation of a Feminist International Assistance Policy, as well as her thoughts on the opportunities and challenges for today’s leaders and the next generation of leaders in international development.
The event will include moderated questions and questions from the audience.
About our speaker:
The Honourable Karina Gould is the Member of Parliament for Burlington and Canada’s Minister of International Development. Between December 2015 and January 2017, she served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, before her appointment in January 2017 as Canada’s Minister of Democratic Institutions. Before her election as the Member of Parliament, she worked as a trade and investment specialist for the Mexican Trade Commission in Toronto, a consultant for the Migration and Development Program at the Organization of American States in Washington, D.C., and spent a year volunteering at an orphanage in Mexico. She is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Oxford and lives in Burlington with her husband Alberto and son Oliver.
