CIC Winnipeg: The ‘Trump’ effect on trade

Description
Donald Trump is only the latest manifestation of growing nationalism and protectionist forces influencing global trade patterns and policies. The implications for an export-dependent nation such as Canada and provinces such as Manitoba, particularly its agricultural sector, are profound. Laura’s presentation will explore how market access is being affected by tariff and non-tariff barriers, and how domestic policy is being influenced by international pressures.
Speaker’s biography
Laura Rance-Unger is editorial director for Glacier FarmMedia, Canada’s largest publisher of agricultural news and information. She has written about food and agricultural issues in daily and weekly newspapers for the past 37 years. She has received multiple national and international awards for her work. Laura was recognized in 2016 by the UN-FAO and International Federation of Agricultural Journalists for excellence in global food security reporting. In 2012 she was awarded a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to agricultural.
