Country-to-country defence relations between Canada and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is an important component of Canada’s foreign policy and the legacy of a decade of Canadian Armed Forces deployments in support of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Our speaker will discuss defence diplomacy as a component of foreign policy, the role of a Canadian Defence Attaché, and his mission and objectives as the Canadian Defence Attaché in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Speaker’s Biography
Colonel Kevin Brown joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1986 and graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 1990. He has served with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Royal 22e Régiment, at the Infantry School, the Canadian Forces College, QG 2ieme Division, the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre, NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, HQ US Army North and 1 Canadian Air Division HQ. Col Brown has deployed on operations in Croatia, Haiti and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 2009 he was posted as the Deputy Canadian Defence Attaché in Kabul, whence he will return as the Canadian Defence Attaché in July, 2019.
