CIC Winnipeg: Sanctions: Modern Hard Power Tools in a Canadian Context
February 24, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST

The ongoing situation regarding Russian activities in/near Ukraine has thrust sanctions back into the headlines. Sanctions have a controversial history. However, they have been a prevalent hard power tool for states as the world has shied away from armed interstate conflict.
Canada first used sanctions against Rhodesia in 1968 and since then sanctions regimes have become a staple of Canada’s hard power arsenal. Join our panel of speakers to learn more about sanctions in a Canadian context. The panel will delve into sanctions utilizing the Canadian Sanctions Map, an interactive database created by Dr. Charron and her assistants Erin Tramley, Danielle Cherpako, and Jason Quinn.
