Are the promises made at the Paris Conference realisable with current and developing technology?

Dr. Ned Djilali received BSc and MSc degrees in Aeronautics from the University of Hertfordhire and Imperial College, UK and a PhD in Fluid Mechanics from UBC. Following a stint with the Advanced Aerodynamics Department at Bombardier Inc. where he worked on the design of the Regional Jet, he joined the University of Victoria where he developed a teaching and research program in sustainable energy systems.

His current research interests focus on fuel cell technology, large-scale integration of renewable energy, and issues around the energy-water nexus.
He has published over 150 journal papers on these topics as well as on aerodynamics, turbulence and desalination.  Dr. Djilali holds several patents and has trained 50+ Masters and PhD students, many of whom hold leadership positions in the private sector, government agencies and academia.  He served as Director of UVIC’s Institute for Integrated Energy Systems and as Interim Director of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. He was a member of the task force that developed the BC Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Strategy and served on various advisory boards and committees of the Wind Energy Network, the Canadian Hydrogen Network and the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada. He has also collaborated with and consulted for leading automotive and clean energy technology companies and laboratories around the world.

Dr. Djilali’s work on energy systems has earned him the distinction as a Thomson-Reuters Highly Cited Researcher and election as Fellow of both the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
