CIC Victoria: Politics in the Pub: Turkey – and the battle for the Middle East
February 3 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm PST$20
Chris Kilford served as Canada’s military attaché in Ankara, Turkey from 2011-2014. Since retiring from the military in 2014, he has continued to keep a close eye on the region and become a respected commentator on historical and contemporary events. In November 2019, Chris travelled to Qatar, Oman and Turkey. While in Ankara, he had extraordinary access to top decision makers in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he discussed Turkey’s latest military operation in Syria, the plight of Syrian refugees, the Turkish purchase of Russian S-400 air defence missiles and the Turkey-NATO relationship. Moreover, Chris is a former Commanding Officer of 4th Air Defence Regiment, and in-light of recent events in Iran and Iraq, Chris will discuss the assassination of Iranian Major-General Qasem Soleimani by the United States and the shooting-down of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752. This is a marvellous opportunity to hear from an accomplished speaker who has broad first hand experience in this troubled corner of the world.
This event, for CIC members only, will also be held on 4 February.
