Following Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, many Canadians felt compelled to lend a hand in any way they could. One of these Canadians was CIC Victoria member Frank Arnold. Frank was appalled when Russia decided to launch its full scale invasion of Ukraine and although having no Ukrainian ancestry he simply asked what kind of world do we want to live in? Frank began his quest to support Ukraine by hosting various Ukrainian families who had fled the war and he also became part of a grassroots international movement to fight back against the Russian invasion. As he said early on, “I don’t have military experience, but I do have a chequing account.” This past July, Frank travelled to Europe where he gathered supplies from tourniquets to monocular sights for front-line troops, which he then packed into two trucks that he had also purchased. At the wheel of one truck, and with the help of a second driver, the two drove from Zurich, through Germany, Czechia and Poland into Ukraine. It took two days and over 2,000 km, but they made it safe and sound. Now, Frank is back and ready to share his story and inspire us all to continue supporting Ukraine.
Frank Arnold is a pioneer in advocating socially-responsible investing and his passions in life are protecting biodiversity and promoting green philanthropy.
