CIC Victoria: Politics-in-the-Pub…Ireland in 2022!

We have all witnessed the interminable and ongoing wrangling between Britain and the EU over Brexit. But in the meantime, for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the consequences remain significant as discussions continue about the Irish ‘backstop’. Meanwhile, in Ireland, the country continues to grapple with Covid-19 and on the economic front there has been, because of Brexit, a shift in the flow of trade from the UK to European ports. But what else and what more is in store for Ireland in 2022? Helping us here will be Mr. Frank Flood, Ireland’s Consul General in Vancouver. Frank last spoke to us two years ago, just prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and certainly a ‘lot of water’ has passed under the bridge since then!
Mr. Frank Flood served as Ireland’s Ambassador to Estonia from 2014-2018, before taking up his current position as Ireland’s first Consul General in Vancouver. He also has significant experience in working to promote peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, overseas development aid and the promotion of bilateral trade, on two assignments in Belfast, worked overseas with the United Nations Development Programme in Addis Ababa and served as Vice Consul in the Consulate General in Boston. Frank has a science and teaching background and holds a Masters in Education from Trinity College Dublin.
For this event, the doors will open at 12:45 p.m. and the conversation will begin at 1 p.m. There is no admission charge.
