We have all been witnessing the interminable ongoing wrangling between Britain and the EU. What the consequences going forward will eventually be remains a big unkown. But in the meantime, for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the consequences could be significant as discussions continue about the Irish ‘backstop’. What will the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the EU also mean for Ireland’s peace and reconcilliation process? And it’s worth recalling that the Republic of Ireland joined the European Economic Community, the forerunner of the EU in 1973. For this event, our expert speaker will be Mr. Frank Flood, Ireland’s Consul General, Vancouver and Ireland’s former Ambassador to Estonia.
Speaker’s Biography
Frank Flood served as Ireland’s Ambassador to Estonia from 2014-2018, before taking up his current position as Ireland’s first Consul General in Vancouver. He also has significant experience in working to promote peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, overseas development aid and the promotion of bilateral trade, on two assignments in Belfast, worked overseas with the United Nations Development Programme in Addis Ababa and served as Vice Consul in the Consulate General in Boston. Frank has a science and teaching background and holds a M. Ed. from Trinity College Dublin.
