Speaker’s Biography
Professor Tsuyoshi Kawasaki is a Simon Fraser University Associate Professor cross-appointed with the Departments of Political Science and Humanities. A former Japan Foundation Fellow (2000-2001), he was Director of the Asia-Canada Program affiliated with the Department of Humanities in 2005-2013. He specializes in International Relations generally and Japanese foreign policy in particular. Methodologically, he is a student of qualitative methods who seeks to combine rigorous hypothesis testing with rich cultural literacy regarding Asia generally and Japan in particular. His ongoing research projects attempt to bridge the field of Japanese diplomatic history and International Relations theory. His additional research interests include international relations of the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan’s relations with Canada and the United States), grand strategy, and international security.
