CIC Victoria: Haroon Siddiqui @ UVic ‘My Name is not Harry’

March 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm PDT

When: Friday, 22 March
Where: The University of Victoria, Student Union Building
Time: 1-2 pm
Our Speaker: Haroon Siddiqui, editorial page Editor Emeritus of the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper

Join CIC Victoria and the University of Victoria for a special opportunity to hear from Haroon Siddiqui of the Toronto Star discussing his new book, My Name is Not Harry. His delightful and engaging memoir charts how Canada has changed for the better since 1967 when he landed in Montreal, from India, just in time for Expo 67.

First with the Brandon Sun, and later with the Toronto Star, Haroon went on to champion immigration and multiculturalism, pioneer cross-cultural journalism and insist that it was un-Canadian to use free speech as a licence for hate speech. In his editorials, he also opposed the limitless American War on Terror, the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and the long war in Afghanistan. In his talk, he will share his journalistic forays into the corridors of power, various war zones, cultural minefields and his personal journey from British Colonial India to an ever changing, progressive Canada.

Haroon Siddiqui is editorial page Editor Emeritus of the Toronto Star, Canada’s largest newspaper, and a senior fellow at Massey College. A member of the Order of Canada, he has covered or supervised coverage of Canada for fifty years, through ten prime ministers, and reported from fifty nations, including his native India.

There is no cost to attend this event.  The event is open to everyone.
