CIC Victoria: By Zoom…Canada-Chile relations – past, present, future…
April 28 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT
Canada and Chile have enjoyed vibrant diplomatic relations since 1941. Indeed, relations are broad and multi-faceted, anchored in shared values, including a commitment to democracy, human rights and women’s empowerment, open markets and commerce, and multilateral cooperation to address global peace and security challenges. In particular, 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the Canada-Chile Free Trade Agreement, the cornerstone of the bilateral trade and investment relationship, which has resulted in trade nearly quadrupling since it came into force in 1997. Chile has also become Canada’s top investment destination in South and Central America and 10th worldwide with Canadian companies present in mining, utilities, chemicals, transportation and storage services and financial services.
In his talk, Ambassador Michael Gort will discuss relations between Canada and Chile, Canada’s overall presence in the country, and the prospects for strengthening future bilateral relations. In addition, at the time of the talk, Chile’s new president will have been in power for six weeks!
