CIC Victoria: 2022 – the year in review with Jeremy Kinsman

January 18 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm PST

When: Wednesday, 18 January from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
Where: at the Union Club.

For lots of good reasons, especially political, few will miss 2022.  It was a year defined by the effects of a lingering pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, demonstrations in Iran, a revolving door at No. 10 Downing Street, plus the US midterms along with advancing climate change, galloping inflation and concerns that conflict could soon erupt in Asia.  To put many of the events last year into perspective, and discuss what might lie ahead, we are delighted that former Ambassador and CIC Distinguished Fellow Jeremy Kinsman will join us at our first lunch of 2023. Jeremy served as a Canadian Ambassador for 15 years, in Moscow from 1992-96, in Rome from 1996-2000, as High Commissioner in London from 2000-2002, and as Ambassador to the EU in Brussels from 2002-2006. After leaving government service, he transferred his energies to civil society, heading from 2007 an international project for the Community of Democracies.  During this time he also held university appointments at Princeton, Berkeley, and Ryerson, and is also a Director with Dundee Precious Metals in Toronto.  Jeremy is also a CIC Distinguished Fellow and since May 2021 has been leading a CIC and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Canada joint project called Renewing Our Democratic Alliance. He also writes regularly on foreign affairs issues and can be seen weekly on CTV news.

Doors open at 11:30 am.  The cost to attend is $40 for CIC and Union Club members, $45 for non-members, $20 for CIC student members, and $30 for young professional and non-member students.
