CIC Vancouver NATO – Canada: The New Age of Alliances
October 17, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:45 am PDT

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an alliance born between the United States, Canada and several Western European nations created in 1949 as a means to create a defensive bulwark against the Soviet Union. Canada has been fully committed to NATO since its founding, participating in all of the Alliances’ activities that promote international security and stability. NATO faces internal alliance challenges while at the same time, Russia and China are becoming forces that will need to be addressed. In an era where most NATO members have been lulled into a sense of security in post-Cold War peace, how can Canada help within NATO in order to rise to meet the challenge of retaining security in a world of shifting alliances and new global powers emerging?
