Speaker’s Biography
Dr. Nicole Jackson received her BA from the University of Toronto, and went on to complete her MSc and PhD at the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on security studies, foreign policy analysis, = authoritarianism, and international organized crime. Since 1994, her work in the field has taken her to Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. She is the author of Russian Foreign Policy and the CIS: Theories, Debates and Actions, along with numerous peer-reviewed articles. She now works as an Associate Professor with the School for International Studies at Simon Fraser University, as well as furthering research in regard to how and why external states and organizations act to provide security in weak, autocratic states, focusing on the former Soviet region.
Discussion Questions
1) How should Canada be responding to Russia? Are we doing enough, if not, what is it we are not doing?
2) What is the role of defence, diplomacy, intelligence, and society, in responding to Russia?
