Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. Please consult our events calendar for a listing of CIC-organized and sponsored events.

If you have an idea for a CIC event, please contact us at info@thecic.org.

CIC Toronto: Understanding Canada’s New Defence Industrial Strategy

April 10 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Understanding Canada’s New Defence Industrial Strategy

Date: Friday, April 10, 2026
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (EST)
Location: Virtual via Zoom Webinar

The Canadian International Council’s Toronto Branch is delighted to invite you for a timely discussion on Canada’s New Defense Industrial Strategy.

Canada launched its first-ever Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS), Security, Sovereignty and Prosperity, in February 2026. The strategy aims to strengthen the domestic defence industrial base, increase defence-related investment, and bolster supply chain resilience.

This event will examine how Canada is shaping its defence industrial base in an era of heightened geopolitical uncertainty and rapid technological change. Featuring insights from Jeff Collins, Assistant Professor of Defence and Security at the University of Prince Edward Island, the discussion will situate the strategy with the context of prior Canadian defence industrial policy efforts, the strategic objectives behind Canada’s approach, the challenges of implementation – especially on procurement, and the strategy could mean for innovation, sovereignty, and national security moving forward.

The event will be moderated by Mustafa Aryan, President of the Canadian International Council’s Toronto Branch, with opening remarks by Stuart Jones, Membership Chair of the Toronto Branch and Program Assistant with the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center.
