Cyberspace constitutes an ever-changing and expanding realm of hyper connectivity and complex technological advancements which have given rise to the dimension of conflict referred to as cyber warfare. As offensive cyber capacities proliferate and competing visions for the future of these digital structures clash, the desire for global security demands an evolution of international diplomatic strategies.

The CIC Toronto Branch is pleased to present a virtual panel to discuss the emergence of cyber warfare, the threats facing countries like Canada, and review the growing field of cyber-diplomacy.

The event will be moderated by Josh Gold, Vice President of the CIC’s Toronto Branch and will feature PhD Candidate Amel Attatfa, Dr. Dan Bousfield, and Dr. Mark Raymond.

About the speakers:

Dan Bousfield is an Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario in Canada in Political Science and the Director of the International Relations Program. Dan Bousfield researches social movements, protest and critical political economy, with an emphasis on psychoanalysis, technology, pedagogy and resistance. He received his PhD from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario in 2009. He has published articles in Settler Colonial Studies, Globalizations, Global Networks, International Studies Perspectives and Sport and Society.

Amel Attatfa is currently a PhD Research-Student in Cyber diplomacy (candidate) and Representative in the UK PhD Cyber Network. She is a Member of Security Research Group (Abertay University), Athena Swan Committee, Graduate Women (S). She was educated in France, Paris, with a BA in International Political Science (Hons), a MA in Political Science, specialised in transnational politics (Hons), and a MA in Public Law-International Careers. Her background is interdisciplinary: from international political science through transnational politics, diplomacy, international law (public law) to cyber matters.
