CIC Saskatoon: Canada on the UN Security Council?

March 12, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm CST

$20 – $40

Should Canada fight to get onto the UN Security Council? And does the rest of the world want us there? These are just two of the questions we face as Canada vies for one of the two temporary UNSC seats that will be decided by vote in June.
Join us as Adam Chapnick, professor of defence studies at the Canadian Forces College and author of the new book, “Canada on the UN Security Council: A Small Power on a Large Stage”, discusses Canada’s past forays into this realm of the UN – including eight elections (two unsuccessful) and six terms as a non-permanent member – as well as our prospects for re-election. What are our prospects? What can Ottawa do – and is it doing enough? What are the benefits of our membership for Canada and the world? Join us as Dr. Chapnick explores these and other questions.
