CIC National Capital Branch’s Middle East Study Group (MESG) presents…

REGIONAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE ISRAEL-GAZA CONFLICT

AN ARMCHAIR CONVERSATION WITH DR. MICHAEL ATALLAH

10 June 2024, 7 pm EST

EVENT DESCRIPTION

While the international community has been consumed with the every day tactical dimension/humanitarian implication of Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip, very little attention has been paid to the regional and possible longer-term implication of this most recent Middle East war. We know that from previous conflicts, large military escalations have frequently led to unforeseen consequences that continue to plague the Middle East until today—from the 1982 Israel offensive in Lebanon to the US military interventions against Iraq. What are those possible implications regionally and in Palestinian areas? How will the region be transformed because of the war? What does it mean for the international community and for middle powers like Canada in the future?
