CIC National: The Implementation of the Peace Process in Colombia – A View from the Ground

Join the Canadian International Council for a Coffee Talk presentation by Jaimi Gardner (Field Officer, United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC)).
Jaimi Gardner is a Field Officer at The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC). Within the first year of the UN Political Mission, Jaimi worked as an Observer and Gender Focal Point in the International Component of the Tripartite Monitoring and Verification Mechanism in the designated Encampment Zone of Yarí in the Municipality of Macarena, Meta where she monitored the ceasefire and cessation of hostilities between the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP, as well as the FARC-EP´s laying down of arms process. She is currently part of the Mobile Team in the Regional Office of Cúcuta, North Santander, where she verifies the reincorporation process and security guaranties of former FARC-EP combatants, their families and community members within the region of Catatumbo. Prior to joining the UNVMC, Jaimi worked as a Project Analyst at The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) in Lima, Peru.
Jaimi is from Mississauga, although claims to be from Toronto when not in the presence of real Torontonians, and has worked for a variety of Ottawa-based NGOs on international peace, security and development projects in Latin America and Africa. She has a MA in Political Science with a specialization in International Security Studies from York University, where she wrote her thesis on “Educating for Peace in the Midst of War: A Critical Analysis of Peace Education within the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict,” and holds a BA in Political Science from Western University. While living in Ottawa, Jaimi was an active member of CIC and is honoured to be invited as a guest speaker.
