UNITED STATES ELECTION PANEL WITH FORMER AMBASSADORS OF CANADA TO THE UNITED STATES DEREK BURNEY AND MICHAEL KERGIN, MODERATED BY DAVID HALTON
The CIC-NCB’S North America Study Group is pleased to host a virtual event with two of Canada’s most distinguished ambassadors to the United States, moderated by former long-serving journalist David Halton.
The United States election on November 3, 2020 will be one of the most consequential in the country’s history, with domestic, bilateral, trilateral, and global implications. To help sharpen Canadians’ understanding of these dynamics, we have invited two of our most seasoned ambassadors to the United States, who both remain active on bilateral affairs, for a session moderated by one of our country’s most experienced and respected retired foreign correspondents. We welcome active audience participation in this special event.
Derek H. Burney is Chairman of Burney Investment Group. Mr. Burney is also Chairman of GardaWorld’s International Advisory Board, Chairman of Enablence Technologies Inc. and a member of the Paradigm Capital Inc. Advisory Board. A career Foreign Service officer for more than thirty years, Mr. Burney is a former Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. and Chief of Staff to Brian Mulroney.
Michael Kergin served almost 40 years as a career Foreign Service Officer with postings to Cameroon, Chile, the UN, and the USA. He was Ambassador to Cuba and to the United States. He also held senior positions in Foreign Affairs and the PCO.
David Halton will moderate the discussion. Mr. Halton is a retired CBC News Senior Correspondent. Among his many positions abroad, Mr. Halton became the CBC’s Senior Washington Correspondent in 1991, which included covering four presidential elections.
David MacDuff, the Founding Chair of the North America Study Group, will open the discussion.
Priority will be given to CIC members although registration will be open to all.
