CIC National Capital (Ottawa): Politics at the Pub – Evaluating Canada’s International Assistance Policy

February 20, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm EST

Event Description

The CIC National Capital Branch welcomes you to the next Politics at the Pub event: Evaluating Canada’s International Assistance Policy

Canada’s official development assistance (ODA) is near an all-time low, having fallen to just 0.26 percent of gross national income (GNI), well below the UN’s ODA/GNI target of 0.7. Last year, the Canadian government announced its new “Feminist International Assistance Policy”, yet questions remain about the financing and implementation of this bold new vision, which comes with no new funding.

What are and what should be Canada’s goals for international assistance? Are we spending the right amount and in the right way? Where is there potential for further innovation in financing and program delivery? How does Canadian public opinion on foreign aid compare to that of other countries?

About the Panel:

Bruce Montador (moderator) is the current Chair of the Africa Study Group. His previous positions include Executive Director representing Canada at the African Development Bank and Vice-President for Multilateral Programs at the former Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
