CIC National Capital (Ottawa): Politics at the Pub: Competition & Opportunity in the Global Clean Energy Race
April 18, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Description
The next Politics at the Pub will look at the future of clean energy and Canada’s position within the race to dominate the renewable energy and green technology sectors.
With economies, ecosystems, and communities being disrupted by the impacts of global climate change, 2016 marked a pivotal point in the struggle to mitigate its acceleration. The Paris Climate Agreement, heralded as a paragon of international diplomacy, was ratified by 194 states as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. As countries around the world began embracing energy policies that promoted sustainable economic development, the proliferation of renewable and sustainable energy systems has since spurred a transformation of the global energy system.
With China poised to lead the green energy revolution, what are the geopolitical implications of a changing order in the energy system? What open-source trends and clean and low-carbon technologies are critical to bolstering innovation in the clean energy sector? Should Canada pursue more aggressive strategies for fostering the adoption of global commitments in the private sector, and if so, at what cost?
