CIC National Capital (Ottawa): Asian Development Outlook – Financing a Green and Inclusive Recovery (online event)

May 11, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

Free
Together with the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) North American Representative Office, CIC National Capital Branch’s Asia Pacific Study Group will be hosting a webinar Tuesday, May 11th at 7:30pm (EDT).
It will feature the ADB’s chief economist Yasuyuki Sawada on the recently released Asian Development Outlook report. We have asked him to take up the report’s theme chapter on green and sustainable finance. Given massive pandemic disruptions that are far from over, it promises to be an interesting look at the challenges and possibilities of “building back better” from an Asian perspective. That said, if you take a look at the full report and have questions about anything therein, he will be more than happy to speak to it.
Abstract:
Green and social finance has grown rapidly in recent years, especially in the private sector. As economies across Asia and the Pacific work to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, how can governments nurture green and social finance to ensure that the recovery is inclusive, resilient, and sustainable?
Our speaker:
Yasuyuki Sawada is the chief spokesperson for the ADB on economic and development trends and leads the Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department, which publishes ADB’s flagship knowledge products. Previously, Dr. Sawada was professor in the faculty of economics at the University of Tokyo. He previously worked at the ADB Institute in Tokyo and served as a consultant for various projects at the World Bank Group. He holds a Doctorate degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in International Development Policy (Food Research Institute) from Stanford University.
The discussion will be moderated by Joshua Cader, Co-Chair of the CIC National Capital Branch Asia-Pacific Study Group.
We look forward to your telepresence – please show up in force with 1) your choice of beverage and 2) your toughest questions for our esteemed guest (Dr. Sawada is a pro).
The webinar will be held on Zoom.
A further link will then be sent via e-mail allowing you to participate.
