CIC Montreal: Venezuelan Caminantes: A Nation’s Quest for Survival

November 27, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST

Free

Venezuela is facing the biggest political and economic crisis in its history. What has now become a humanitarian crisis, has generated the largest exodus ever recorded in the history of Latin America.

These Venezuelans have come to be known as Los Caminantes, The Walkers. They are desperate to flee their country and carry only a few of their belongings with them. They travel by foot for days on end in sometimes brutal conditions to neighbouring Columbia.

Adriana Parra (lawyer, University of Los Andes, Venezuela) is the Deputy Director of the Entre Dos Tierra’s Foundation, a migration initiative based in Colombia that tries to provide help to the Caminantes. Adriana Para will talk about her foundation’s work and her experience on the road with The Walkers.

This event is co-organized by the Canadian International Council (Montreal), the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University and the Canada-Venezuela Democracy Forum.

Only individuals with tickets will be allowed in. Individuals who intend to disrupt the discussion will not be allowed in.
