Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. CIC Montreal: The Indo-Pacific: Canadian and Indian Perspectives

Diplomatic relations between India and Canada have been tumultuous since 2023. Canada’s government is nonetheless counting on its Indo-Pacific strategy as a key piece of its foreign policy approach. At this moment of change, with an election imminent, is there an opening that could lead to a thaw in relations? What is the potential for resetting our diplomatic relations and expanding trade with this growing giant? The Montreal branch of the Canadian International Council is pleased to invite you to this discussion with Indian journalist and scholar C. Raja Mohan, who will present an Indian perspective on this important relationship for both countries.

The event will be moderated by T.V. Paul, Distinguished James McGill Professor in Political Science, McGill University, with discussants Vincent Rigby, Slater Family Professor of Practice, Max Bell School of Public Policy, McGill University; Vina Nadjibulla, Vice President, Research & Strategy, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada; and Christopher Neal, Secretary, Canadian International Council, Montreal Branch. Les relations diplomatiques entre l’Inde et le Canada ont été tourmentées depuis 2023. Néanmoins, le gouvernement canadien mise beaucoup sur sa stratégie Indo-Pacifique. En ce moment de changement au Canada, avec des élections sous peu, aurait-il une ouverture qui pourrait mener à la détente? Quelles seraient les possibilités d’épanouir nos relations diplomatiques et commerciales avec ce géant en croissance? Le Conseil international du Canada (Section Montréal) vous propose cette conférence avec le journaliste et analyste indien, C. Raja Mohan, qui présentera une perspective indienne de cette relation importante pour les deux pays.

L’animateur de la discussion sera le Professeur T.V.
