CIC Halifax: Technology, the near future and global affairs

Some technologies, like drones and virtual reality, are highly visible today, Others like social media are becoming invisible, As technologies become invisible, that is when they become interesting and start to have impact. In this session, we will explore some of the profound ways technologies are changing our world and how this has impact on global affairs. We have shifted from an analog society to a digital society and the next few decades will be profound with regard to emerging technologies and how society globally is changing.

Speaker’s Biography
Giles Crouch is a technology entrepreneur, futurist and digital researcher. He’s been at the forefront of new technologies for over 20 years, from the early days of eCommerce and IP Telephony to Big Data analytics, semantic and heuristic research and machine learning. Giles is interviewed regularly by news media (CBC TV and radio, CTV News, Global News and others) across Canada on the impacts of social media and technology on society. He’s lectured at Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s University as well as Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa. He’s worked on over 300 social media research projects on marketing and civil society issues including Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, Cote D’Ivoire, Kenya, Iran and others.
