The Taliban has returned to power in Afghanistan, twenty years since the U.S. and coalition forces first ousted the Taliban from power. The Taliban’s return has plunged the country into a humanitarian crisis, which has created a particularly precarious for Afghanistan’s 14 million women and girls.

To help us understand the situation in Afghanistan as well as to share her experiences, CIC Edmonton is being joined by reporter and Ph.D. candidate Zahra Nader.  The discussion will include the opportunity for audience questions.

About the speaker:

Zahra Nader is a Ph.D. student in Gender, Feminist & Women’s Studies at York University. From 2011 to 2017, she has worked as a journalist with local and international media from Kabul—including The New York Times.
