CIC Saskatoon: Global Connections – Introducing… National Farmers Union

International development – and nachos. Come join us at Global Connections – a no-commitment gathering where we meet up with old friends and new, and where we celebrate a group that is contributing to making the world a better place through the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). This series is the brainchild of the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC), whose funding makes this event possible.
February’s session, hosted during International Development Week, features executive members of National Farmers Union (NFU), who will talk about their work to achieve agricultural policies that provide dignity and income security for farmers and farm workers while protecting and enhancing the land and rural communities for future generations. The NFU collaborates with farmer organizations from the Global South on issues such as trade rules, corporate concentration, seed rights, and climate justice, framing these as shared struggles between Canadian family farms and farmers in developing countries.
Hosted in the historic back room of Amigos Cantina, the Global Connections format of “networking (& nachos), presentation, and more networking (and nachos)” has attracted a committed audience in the area, and has provided a safe window on the world to a lot of people new to Saskatoon – or new to many of these international topics. Committed and high-energy workers from a number of the groups under the SCIC umbrella will be in attendance, so it’s a great setting for information sharing.
Come on by at 5 pm and witness the magic for yourself. Looking forward to celebrating with everybody!
