Events

The mission of the CIC is to promote an understanding of international affairs and Canada’s role in a changing world by providing Canadians with a non-partisan, nationwide forum for informed discussion, analysis and debate. Accordingly, the cornerstone of the CIC’s work is our events program. The CIC national office and our branches hold more than 150 events per year in cities across the country. In particular, our branch events give members an opportunity to directly engage with global issues that often intersect with local concerns. The CIC also supports events outside of Canada, often in partnership with other global think tanks, that can introduce Canadian perspectives to global audiences. CIC events take on many different forms, from academic lectures and panel discussions to town hall meetings and pub nights. Please consult our events calendar for a listing of CIC-organized and sponsored events.

If you have an idea for a CIC event, please contact us at info@thecic.org.

CIC Saskatoon: Global Connections – Caritas “Turns Debt Into Hope in 2025”

November 19, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm CST

International development – and nachos. Come join us at Global Connections –a casual gathering, hosted by CIC-Saskatoon, where we meet up with old friends and new, and where we celebrate a group that is contributing to making the world a better place through the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). This series is the brainchild of the Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC), whose funding makes this event possible.

Join us as our presenter, Michael Leblanc from Development and Peace – Caritas, presents on “Turn Debt Into Hope in 2025”, in which he discusses their efforts to meet the goals of the 2025 Jubilee Year – to forgive the debts of countries that will never be able to repay them.” (Spes Non Confundit, 16); to reform global financial systems to prevent future debt traps; to promote ethical governance and responsible lending; and to restore economic justice and dignity for millions affected by debt.

Hosted in the historic back room of Amigos Cantina, the Global Connections format of “networking (& nachos), presentation, and more networking (and nachos)”  has attracted a committed audience in the area, and has provided a safe window on the world to a lot of people new to Saskatoon – or new to many of these international topics. Committed and high-energy workers from a number of the groups under the SCIC umbrella will be in attendance, so it’s a great setting for information sharing.

Come on by at 5 pm and witness the magic for yourself. Looking forward to celebrating with you!
