Speaker’s Biography
Yves Gagnon was Ambassador of Canada to the Republic of Cuba 2013-2016.

Bachelor of Arts at the University of Laval in 1968 and, in 1971, Bachelor of Social Sciences [Political Science] at the same university. He also studied at the National School of Administration in France in 1977.

He joined the Department of External Affairs in 1971. In Ottawa, Mr. Gagnon has worked in the Corporate and Personnel branches, as deputy director for Central America and Caribbean Affairs, as director of the Media Relations Office and as director general for International Cultural Relations.

He served abroad in Guatemala City and Paris (twice). He was ambassador to Venezuela (1995-1998) with concurrent accreditation to the Dominican Republic; to Morocco (2001-2004); and, more recently, to Argentina (2004-2007) with concurrent accreditation to Paraguay. Mr. Gagnon also worked as vice-president of Petro-Canada International Assistance Corporation and as senior policy adviser to the minister of State of Foreign Affairs.

He is married to Patricia Dunberry and has three children.
